5K Training: Week 1

So I’ve set a new goal for myself recently that I want to run my first 5K. I’m not a runner by any means. I’ve never run more than 2 miles straight in my life and I want to prove to myself that I can accomplish the goal of running a 5K. I did some research on a healthy way to train for a 5K for beginners and Couch to 5K (C25K) was a popular option…so I started it!


Basically it is a 9-week program that has 3 scheduled training days a week. This ensures that you do not get burned out or discouraged. So I officially completed my first week today and I’m proud of myself.



That’s a picture of me during the cool down of my first day. I felt great. The second two days were a bit of a struggle but I did them and logged them. My goal is to run every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. On Tuesday I went to the gym and walked on the treadmill for 50 minutes just to get some cardio in.


I feel as if this 5K training will kickstart some wellness goals of mine and I’m excited to see how my training goes week-to-week. I’m hoping to run the Turkey Trot in Austin on Thanksgiving Day as my first 5K. What better thing than to run first thing in the morning and reward myself with a delicious Thanksgiving dinner later that day? Nothing.


I will update the 5K training series on a weekly basis and let you know how training is going. Can’t wait to see how it goes!
