Save or Splurge?

I’ve always questioned myself when buying high quality makeup, “Is it really worth it?” As I have tried high quality products versus drugstore products, I have come to learn that although some products may be worth it, others aren’t. Plain and simple. Here is my opinion of which products I think is worth it to splurge on versus saving your money and buying drugstore products.

Foundation: Save. I have been using the Covergirl 3-in-1 Foundation for about a year now and I can’t find anything to beat it. I splurged back in September on the Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation and I don’t know if it was a bad bottle, a bad formula for my skin, but I had to stop using after about 3 uses. I immediately went back to my Covergirl and haven’t even considered looking elsewhere. I will say though, bareMinerals Original SPF 15 Foundation is amazing. I used it for about 4 years when I was in High School and College but with my student budget couldn’t afford it much longer. I also like something with a little more coverage than that offers but is great if you like a light coverage.

Concealor: Save. I am currently using the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer and it’s the best drugstore concealor I’ve used. I am prone to dark circles under my eyes so I have to use a concealer. Otherwise I will look like I’m suffering from chronic exhaustion. So, the Maybelline concealor is a great treat for that. It’s light on the skin but gives great coverage. I also love the MAC Pro Longwear Concealer. That would be my number one option for a high end concealer, but the $6.99 stuff does the trick.

Bronzer: Save. To me, bronzer is bronzer is bronzer is bronzer. I am currently using the Benefit Hoola Bronzer and it gives a flawless finish to my skin that is very flattering. I guess you can say it’s worth the $20ish that I spent, but I also love the Miliani Baked Bronzer and is a quarter of the price. Both do the same thing and both have the same finish. So in that case, I would save and go with the Milani Baked Bronzer.

Blush: Splurge. Blush can be tricky. A lot of blush can be the perfect shade in the container when you buy it and then when you apply it, you have to pack the stuff on to get it’s true color. Other blushes don’t look glittery in the container and when you apply them it looks like a glitter fairy sneezed on your face. With that being said, I feel that high quality blushes are the ones that have the most accurate pigmentation and ability to last all day. I love the Benefit Rockateur and the rosy sheen it leaves on my cheeks. I ran out of a sample I had but really want more. The $28 price tag makes me want to cringe a little, but Valentine’s Day is coming up, right?

Eyeshadow: Splurge. As I said above about blush, eyeshadow is one of those tricky products that may not always provide the pigment you want it to. A great thing about eyeshadow is that you can buy it in palettes and have a variety of beautiful shades all with the same quality. Urban Decay is my hands down favorite brand of eye shadow. The pigment is gorgeous, the amount of product you need is small, and they last forever. The Urban Decay Naked Palettes are the best. I also love the Urban Decay Primer Potion to make sure the shadow lasts all day.

Mascara: Save. I have my mother to thank for this one. Shout out to you, Momma! When I first started wearing makeup when I was in high school my mom limited me to a light powder, clear lipgloss, and mascara. So when I first started to learn how to wear makeup I would just use her stuff and then if I wanted different things I would have to buy it myself. But, no matter what new stuff I tried, I always used the mascara my mom had. It was amazing stuff. Since then, my mom and I have always worn the same mascara. We’ve both changed to the L’oreal Extra Volume Mascara. I’ve tried multiple new mascaras and nothing can beat this. Don’t thank me. Thank my Mom.

Lipstick: Splurge and Save. I love lipstick. I buy too much lipstick. It needs to stop. I love Revlon lipsticks and I also love MAC lipsticks. I can’t tell you to go one direction or another because I am contantly changing up my lipstick game and trying new shades. I love the way lipstick can completely change your look and give your face life. Sorry I can’t be more of a help on this one. I’m back and forth myself.

I hope you found this helpful!

xoxo
